A man cannot be convicted for offence of r@ping his wife no matter the circumstances under which he had s£x with her – Nigerian lawyer says

A Nigerian lawyer, Stella has said a man cannot be convicted for raping his wife because marital or spousal rape is not a crime in Nigeria.

“CAN A HUSBAND RÃPË HIS WIFE? A WIFE who is LEGALLY MARRIED to a MAN CANNOT claim that her HUSBAND RAPED her no matter the CIRCUMSTANCES under which the HUSBAND had SËX with her,” she wrote in a post on Saturday. 

“This is because, the OFFENCE of SPOUSAL or MARITAL RÃPÊ is YET to be provided in any LAW in NIGERIA.

“A man CANNOT be CONVICTED for the offence of RÃPING his WIFE.

“SECTION 282(2) of the penal code act

“SECTION 357 of the criminal code act.”
